Contract Project Manager

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Contract Project Manager to lead and stabilize a data repository project currently in progress. The successful candidate will be responsible for quickly assessing project status, re-establishing control where needed, and driving the project through to successful completion using strong PMI-based project management practices. This role requires a highly autonomous professional who is comfortable stepping into mid-flight projects, navigating ambiguity, and working with diverse academic and technical stakeholders in a post‑secondary environment.

What you will be doing

• Assume ownership of an in-progress data repository project, including rapid assessment of scope, schedule, risks, budget, and deliverables.
• Establish or re-baseline project plans, timelines, milestones, and dependencies as required.
• Apply PMI / PMP best practices across all phases of the project lifecycle.
• Lead project governance, including status reporting, issue escalation, and risk management.
• Coordinate and manage cross-functional teams, including IT, data, and business stakeholders.
• Ensure project objectives align with institutional goals, data governance standards, and compliance requirements.
• Identify and proactively manage project risks, constraints, and change requests.
• Facilitate clear communication across stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
• Drive project execution to completion, ensuring quality deliverables are met on time and within agreed parameters.
• Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and transition support as needed at project close.

What you must have

• PMP certification (required) with strong grounding in PMI methodologies and fundamentals.
• Proven experience managing data-centric or data repository projects, ideally within complex or regulated environments.
• Demonstrated success taking over projects already in progress and stabilizing delivery.
• Strong ability to work independently and autonomously with minimal supervision.
• Experience working with technical teams, data architects, developers, and analysts.
• Solid understanding of project governance, risk management, and change control.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in a post-secondary or public-sector environment is considered a strong asset.
