The Position

We are seeking a qualified individual to join our team located at the Vaughan Office. This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate thrives in an environment where they can take ownership and be rewarded for results.

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing all financial aspects of assigned projects, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance with contractual terms, and alignment with company financial objectives. This role works closely with Project Managers to monitor budgets, track costs, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Enter and maintain project budgets in the accounting system.
  • Analyze actual costs and maintain accurate forecasts for cost at completion.
  • Maintain change order logs and ensure all related revenue and costs are properly entered into the system.
  • Lead monthly job reviews with Project Managers to assess and monitor financial job performance.
  • Generate and issue accurate and timely billings for projects.
  • Monitor and ensure billing for holdbacks is released in accordance with job specifications.
  • Calculate and analyze monthly profit recognition using the Percentage of Completion method.
  • Post weekly time tickets for labour and analyze variances.
  • Ensure that the accounting system reflects prices and terms agreed to in signed contractual documents.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project accounting, preferably in construction, or manufacturing industries.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and the Percentage of Completion method.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams); experience with Microsoft D365 Business Central is an asset.
