Program Coordinator Food Services

(Permanent, Full-Time)

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Community Services Department has an immediate opening for Permanent Full‑Time Program Coordinator at the Seniors Activity Centre Garden Side Cafe. Reporting to the Recreation Services Supervisor, this position will be responsible for:

  • Plans, organizes and oversees food service operations for the centre’s daily operations, special events and catering services; plans meal menus within budget and nutritional guidelines; oversees the quality and presentation of food served.
  • Plans, assigns, supervises and participates in the work of kitchen staff and volunteers engaged in preparing, serving and selling food; trains and schedules staff and volunteers; participates in recruitment.
  • Orders, receives and inventories food stores; ensures proper handling and storage of food and the rotation of perishable items; ensures maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment and makes recommendations on the purchase of new equipment.
  • Calculates food and service costs and assists a supervisor in the development of pricing structure and annual budget; monitors expenditures within assigned budget; monitors invoices for accuracy and prepares and maintains records related to the work.
  • Coordinates with a variety of internal and external contacts on matters related to the work, such as suppliers and the Volunteer Coordinator; communicates with staff and customers regarding food services and makes recommendations to superiors as appropriate; participates in staff and committee meetings as required.
  • Ensures compliance with health regulations, safety practices and established standards.
  • Performs related work as required.

The preferred candidates will possess working knowledge of food products and methods used in preparing and serving meals, fresh baked goods, take‑out options and catering orders; working knowledge of health and safety procedures in food and baking preparation and service; knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils, and the care of these items; excellent communication, time management and organizational skills; ability to work effectively and proactively with volunteers, staff and the public; ability to take direction and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a larger team.

The ideal candidates will have completed college cooking‑related courses, possess a current certificate for Provincial Food Safe 2, and have related work experience.

The successful candidates will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status

Union (WVMEA) – Permanent Full‑Time

Hours of Work

40 hours per week. Hours and days of work may vary and will include weekend and/or early morning or evening hours.

Starting Rate of Pay

$36.97 per hour.

This position has a pay structure with five steps which increases based on hours worked.
