Product Manager, Backoffice Services, Brampton, ON

This is a critical role within our Stores Backoffice Services Product Management team! As a Product Manager, you will leverage your unique blend of product leadership and software development expertise to shape the essential tools and systems that empower our store colleagues every day. You'll be building solutions that streamline in-store operations, enhance efficiency, and directly impact the productivity and experience of thousands of Loblaw colleagues across our grocery and pharmacy stores nationwide.

You will translate complex operational needs and evolving business requirements into a compelling product vision, strategy, and executable roadmap. Your mission will be to deliver Backoffice solutions that are not only scalable and cost-effective but are also seamlessly aligned with Loblaw's broader strategic goals for retail excellence. If you're a technically-minded Product Manager passionate about optimizing complex systems and delivering tangible impact for frontline retail operations, this role is for you!

What You’ll Do
  • Strategic Roadmap Ownership: Lead the development and execution of the Stores Backoffice Services product roadmap, defining a clear vision, strategy, priorities, and key milestones in close collaboration with store operations, engineering, regional management, and other key business stakeholders.
  • Deep Dive Discovery: Conduct in-depth user research and analysis with store colleagues and operational teams. Translate diverse operational needs and business requirements into precise product requirements, detailed user stories, comprehensive specifications, and measurable metrics for backoffice tools.
  • End-to-End Delivery: Oversee the entire product delivery lifecycle, working hand-in-hand with engineering, design, and operations teams to deliver features and improvements that meet high standards of quality, timeliness, and operational effectiveness for our stores.
  • Performance & Optimization: Own and drive key backoffice KPIs and metrics (e.g., task completion time, system uptime, user adoption rates, training effectiveness, reduction in manual processes). You'll define, track, report, and continuously iterate based on data-driven insights and store feedback.
  • Innovation & Efficiency: Proactively identify and prioritize opportunities for automation, process improvements, and scaling backoffice capabilities, expertly balancing trade-offs between cost, speed, reliability, and colleague experience.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Conduct robust quantitative and qualitative analysis, leveraging data, direct feedback from stores, and operational insights to make informed, impactful product decisions.
  • Stakeholder Management: Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization, including store leadership and regional teams, ensuring transparent communication regarding roadmap progress, trade-off decisions, and potential risks, and skillfully negotiating priorities with business leaders.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure that compliance, security, and regulatory considerations are meticulously incorporated into all Stores Backoffice product designs and implementations.
What You’ll Bring
  • Combined Expertise: Proven Product Management experience combined with demonstrated hands‑on software development experience (e.g., coding, system design, architectural understanding). This unique background is essential for understanding technical feasibility, architectural implications, and effectively collaborating with engineering teams on backoffice solutions.
  • Domain Expertise: Strong familiarity with retail store operations and backoffice processes, such as task management, article management, pricing and promotions, in‑store inventory management, receiving, merchandising, pricing, compliance, and other essential store systems.
  • Strategic Vision & Execution: The ability to think long‑term and define a coherent strategy, coupled with a hands‑on approach to drive execution, manage trade‑offs, and deliver measurable results.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Comfortable working with large datasets, defining critical metrics, designing and running experiments, and utilizing both quantitative and qualitative insights to guide product decisions.
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Proven ability to lead and influence across diverse teams (store operations, engineering, design, regional management), demonstrating strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Prioritization & Problem Solving: Exceptional skills in breaking down complex problems, defining the minimum viable solution, making high‑judgment trade‑offs, and thriving in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Communication Excellence: Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present complex ideas clearly to leadership and effectively align teams.
