Some of what you will do:

An exciting opportunity to own the strategic private label (Own Brand) development of a multitude of categories across the business for our consumers! The owner of the seasonal categories will be responsible for the end-to-end product lifecycle process, managing and influencing multiple stakeholders to deliver quality products to consumers and drive our innovation targets. This role will work to achieve sales and margin goals by working with Category Managers, Operations, Marketing and our Packaging and Design team members to execute a cohesive and aesthetically aligned assortment of product offerings on a seasonal basis. Each day will be fast-paced, challenging, rewarding and meaningful.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the exciting infancy stages of the Own Brands department. With this, the position offers the ability to be a part of the beginning of many new strategic process developments. A successful candidate would be tenured enough in their home goods product development experience to be able to successfully pull together complementary cross-category product assortments, while managing the many internal and external partners that accompany this exciting and strategic challenge.

This role requires an individual with the unique ability to think big while also managing the details to execute successfully and is a true opportunity to be a part of shaping the future of how Staples Canada shows up to our consumers in store as a storytelling experience.

Specifically, You Will:

  • Owns Seasonal Product Development – Manages end-to-end lifecycle for seasonal categories, driving innovation, sales, and margin across all our channels.
  • Strategic Planning – Builds 3-year strategic plans using sales data, market insights, and vendor input; collaborates with Staples US and internal teams.
  • Trend & Vendor Engagement – Works closely with Design to align with trend boards; builds vendor relationships to source new seasonal opportunities.
  • Competitive & Sales Analysis – Maintains competitive landscape reports and weekly sales downloads; delivers postmortem insights to senior leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partners with Category Managers, Marketing, Packaging, and Design to ensure cohesive seasonal assortments.

Some of what you need:

  • Post Secondary degree required, Business/ Communications/ Marketing/ Design preferred
  • Exceptional problem solving and influencing skills required for creating bold business cases that will result in strong results
  • Professional communicator, with ability to pitch and sell ideas to large groups of various team members
  • Proficient in excel sales analysis, PowerPoint presentations
  • Illustrator and graphic design experience a bonus, an eye for design and trend is necessary
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the product development and management world on home/ office goods
  • Proven experience as a people leader with an invested interest in development of their direct reports
  • Track record of negotiation experience with large scale vendors
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with ability to prioritize competing tasks with minimal supervision
