Overview

Are you local to the Bonnyville area and looking for a new career opportunity? Friends Tubular Services Ltd. is hiring Power Tong Operators to join their team supporting oil and gas clients throughout the Lakeland region. This position is based in the Bonnyville area and includes both field and shop work. The work schedule is 21 days on, 7 days off, with shifts that vary, as this is a 24/7 operation. Shop hours during scheduled days are typically Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with the possibility of some camp work. On-call availability is required during your 21 days on.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate hydraulic or electric power tongs to make up and break out casing, tubing, and drill pipe.
  • Ensure proper torque is applied to connections according to job specifications.
  • Set up and rig down power tongs and related equipment on-site.
  • Inspect tongs, backup systems, and hydraulic units before and after use.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Monitor and record torque readings accurately using gauges or digital systems.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure proper alignment and stability of pipe before and during tong operations.
  • Communicate effectively with rig crew and supervisors during operations.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or hydraulic issues to minimize downtime.
  • Assist with general rig floor duties when not operating tongs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Requirements
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract.
  • Valid safety certifications: First Aid, H2S Alive, and CSO.
  • Own transportation.
  • Ability to work a 21/7 schedule with various hours (including nights and weekends).
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting 50 lbs.
  • Must pass pre-employment Drug and Alcohol testing.
  • Oil & Gas experience is an asset, but not required — full training is provided.
