Job description
Overview

British Columbia Children's Hospital (BCCH) cares for acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services, and operates specialized health programs through multiple health services provider groups. BCCH is a leading acute care teaching facility and engages in research through the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and in partnership with the University of British Columbia (UBC). As the main pediatric clinical training site for the Faculty of Medicine at UBC, BCCH is the leading acute care teaching facility in the province and collaborates with BCCHR and other institutions. BCCH is accredited as the only Pediatric Trauma Center in British Columbia and serves as the site for definitive care of all major trauma in the province.

Division and Department

Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, University of British Columbia. BC Children’s Hospital Emergency Physicians Associates (CHEPA) operate in the Emergency Department and support clinical care, research, and education.

Position

Pediatric Emergency Physician(s) – Regular Full Time/Part Time Position(s)

Clinical commitments are negotiable between (0.40 FTE to 0.80 FTE)

Responsibilities and Opportunities
  • Provide clinical service to the Emergency Department of BCCH as part of CHEPA.
  • Participate in provincial leadership in pediatric emergency medicine.
  • Engage in undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education programs of the Division of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics, and the Department of Emergency Medicine at UBC.
  • Participate in divisional and departmental operations initiatives and staff meetings.
  • Support clinical and health services research within the division. Identify and contribute non-clinical areas of expertise (e.g., quality improvement, education, POCUS, toxicology) to advance University, Health Authority, and Provincial mandates.
  • Be actively engaged in divisional activities beyond clinical shift-work.
Qualifications
  • Completed a subspecialty residency-training program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine or Emergency Medicine, accredited by the RCPSC, or hold CCFP-EM certification.
  • If not subspecialty-trained, must have experience practicing in an Emergency Department with significant pediatric volume and complexity.
  • Eligible for a specialist license as determined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • UBC Clinical Faculty Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
