Job summary

A leading infrastructure firm in Toronto is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support union payroll operations. This 18-month contract role requires expertise in union payroll and accounting, along with a solid understanding of SAP HCM & Payroll. You will ensure accurate payments, respond to inquiries from various stakeholders, and collaborate with unions. What is the Opportunity:

As a Specialist, Payroll Unions, reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, you will play a key role in supporting the union payroll team. Your expertise will ensure accurate payments and comprehensive reporting for Aecon and its union partners, contributing to smooth payroll operations. Please note, this is an 18-month contract opportunity.

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Respond to inquiries from Corporate, Work Sites, HR, Vendors and Audit
  • Act as a subject matter expert to answer questions, research, and provide support to the HCM & Payroll team
  • Remit and reconcile union payments and burdens with accuracy and in a timely manner
  • Review and reconcile union statements on a monthly basis
  • Ensure accuracy of union retro calculations
  • Set up and test new Union rates and benefits as per Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Maintain and test Union Rate ChangesLiaise with Unions and Government Agencies
  • Research and respond to third party audit inquiries in a timely manner
  • Support new company set ups and ensure the system is configured accurately as per the collective agreements
  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset by recognizing and initiating process improvements
  • Provide second-level support on escalation of customer service and vendor related service issues.
  • Work on projects as required

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Post secondary education in an Accounting related field
  • Completion or working towards NPIpayroll designation preferred
  • 3+ years experience working in a unionized payroll environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in SAP HCM & Payroll
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Business Objects
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills and able to work accurately under tight time constraints
  • Thorough working knowledge and experience with Trade Unions is required
  • Possess a high attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity
  • Technical systems skills, as relates to payroll/HR, with third party payroll providers and HR/Payroll systems
  • Strong communication skills and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, probe, analyze, and solve complex problems
