Payroll Accountant

The Payroll Accountant will provide analytical support to the Finance team, including compilations and remittances, financial data analysis, and testing changes to meet company, union, and statutory requirements.

Position based in Edmonton or Winnipeg.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Process remittances related to payroll, ensuring compliance with legislation in multiple provinces.
  • Prepare detailed reports of payroll information to internal stakeholders.
  • Interpret collective agreements and work with management and unions to ensure compliance and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with the Digital Services team to test and implement payroll system calculations, reports, automation, and enhancements.
  • Use technology to improve payroll processes and reporting.
  • Reconcile GL accounts.
  • Actively liaise with staff and management on payroll related inquiries.
  • Perform payroll administrative tasks as required.
  • Share knowledge and experiences with other team members.
  • Work independently, research complex payroll issues, and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Maintain and safeguard confidential employee information.
What We Are Looking For
  • Minimum 4 years of finance and/or payroll experience with demonstrated analysis of processes and complex data.
  • Payroll experience and familiarity with a large ERP/HRIS system is a definite asset.
  • Background working with a large multi-union workforce, ability to interpret collective agreements, union remittances and reporting requirements.
  • Efficient in creating financial models and spreadsheet analysis, respectful handling of confidential information.
  • Excellent communication skills, customer service orientation, and teamwork.
  • Comfortable managing high volumes and meeting tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and detail.
