We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team at our Sherwood Park head office. This role is ideal for a highly organized, people-focused operations professional who excels in managing multi-disciplinary teams and supporting project delivery across a fast-paced, field-driven environment.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and financially disciplined execution of all field operational activities across our service divisions. You will provide leadership in workforce planning, project delivery support, asset oversight, quality management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in operations, project delivery, or field services leadership (construction, civil infrastructure, engineering, or similar).
- 3–5+ years of direct supervisory or operational leadership experience.
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business/Operations Management, or a related field.
- PMP designation considered an asset.
- Experience leading Project Managers, Supervisors, and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of project execution workflows within construction or field-based service environments.
- Proven ability to drive accountability, lead teams, and manage multiple operational priorities.
- Proficiency with ERP, scheduling tools, and resource planning systems.
- Strong financial and analytical skills (cost control, forecasting, KPI oversight).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee day-to-day field operations across all services lines, ensuring resources are aligned with project requirements.
- Lead operational planning meetings and ensure workforce capacity, training, and competency align with current and upcoming project demands.
- Support Project Managers by monitoring job progress, labour utilization, equipment needs, and operational costs, identifying issues early and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure efficient deployment, maintenance, and tracking of equipment, fleet, and operational assets to support field readiness and uptime.
- Uphold Apex’s safety, quality, and regulatory standards by supporting QA/QC programs, participating in field audits, and ensuring compliance across all operations.
- Oversee the Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) process, ensuring thorough investigations, root-cause analysis, and effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide leadership in performance management, including setting expectations, conducting reviews, addressing performance concerns, and developing supervisors and field staff.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and lead process improvement initiatives designed to streamline workflows, strengthen SOPs, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Leverage operational KPIs and data to guide decision-making, monitor performance trends, and support continuous improvement across divisions.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and high-quality execution throughout all operational teams.
