Job Summary:

Established in 1954, Berry and Smith Trucking is a Family Owned and Operated transportation company providing class leading transportation services to our customers throughout North America. We’re seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our growing trucking division out of our head office in Penticton, BC.

This position will be accountable for the performance of Berry and Smith’s primary trucking division and tasked with leading the dispatch team, maintaining and expanding certain customer relations, negotiating rates and balancing sufficient workloads for the fleet. The successful candidate must be a motivated team player capable of developing and coaching operations staff to continually achieve operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Managing growing team of 4 dispatch staff.
• Overseeing fleet of 75+ drivers, 200+ trailers.
• Ensuring company standards are met on numerous customer service, growth, profitability, safety and operational KPI’s.
• Maintaining and expanding customer relationships.
• Assisting in rate and contract negotiations for new and existing customers.
• Implementation of procedures increasing efficiency and profitability.
• Supporting, mentoring and training of dispatch staff.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Minimum of 2 years of successful leadership or operations experience.
• Comprehensive understanding of trucking industry throughout Canada and US: familiarity with US and Canadian Hours of Service rules, National Safety Code, Canada Labor Code, Safety and Compliance factors and Weight and Dimension regulations across Canada and the US.
• Strong computer skills, familiarity in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint). Preference given to candidates with familiarity in TMW Truckmate and Geotab Software.
• Ability to develop business and positive customer relations both in person and remotely. Work with sales to establish new profitable sales and continued growth of current customers.
• Strong organizational skills: time management, project planning and multi-tasking capability.
• Composure under pressure and ability to make quick, logical decisions.
• Flexibility to work hours as required and dictated by the job and availability to be on call for after-hours telephone calls.
• Ability to travel as required for meetings throughout Canada and US.
• Preparedness to work on a six-month probation period.
• Good physical and mental health.
• Compliance with Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy.
