A leading financial services provider is looking for an Operational Risk & Control Senior Specialist in Southwestern Ontario to support risk management initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of operational risk methodologies and collaboration with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of related experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field is preferred. Hybrid working is offered with a competitive salary range.
The Canada Operations Line 1B Risk and Controls team partners with various Business Units in Canada Operations including Group Benefits, Insurance, Affinity, and Shared Services to promote risk awareness and management of day-to-day risk reduction activities. This team is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and analytical individual as the Operational Risk & Control Senior Specialist who will support Canada Operations in execution of the core components of its Operational Risk Management Framework.
This is an individual contributor role which requires successful collaboration with team members in Canada as well as with business and functional areas subject matter experts and other stakeholders including ORM, Legal, Finance, HR, IT and Compliance.
Corrective Action Plans (CAP) - Support Business Unit partners in the successful closure of CAPs ensuring the implementation of mitigating controls.
Controls testing - Assess control effectiveness by performing end-to-end process walkthroughs with Process and Control Owners to determine control design and operating effectiveness and remediation through Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) for any identified control gaps
Conduct root cause analysis for Operational Risk Events/errors, document and lead discussion with Operational Leaders on opportunities to implement new preventive and detective controls.
Complete analysis on themes and trends for Reportable Events and other key emerging risks.
Understand the area’s Key Risk & Performance Indicators, and other controls to identify negative trends and potential control gaps and contribute to Risk Monthly Operating Review Reports
Maintain strong business relationships with internal business and functional support areas and develop and deliver presentations to senior audiences
