Job Overview
- Assist with studies and research related to Indigenous programs, policies, and approaches supporting our client’s Indigenous Relations program. Review and update policies, standards, and manuals.
- Help update and track the bi-annual Indigenous Relations program report; collaborate with internal stakeholders to report on the program as required.
- Develop and coordinate seminars and workshops to educate staff on Indigenous Rights and raise awareness of Indigenous Relations Programs.
- Conduct benchmarking initiatives with internal staff and external organizations; organize results for the Director.
- Maintain the Indigenous Relations websites (intranet and internet) to provide current information on Indigenous relations activities.
- Plan, organize, and execute Indigenous Relations events, including National Indigenous Peoples Day and John Wesley Beaver awards celebrations.
- Monitor media announcements and government policy updates affecting Indigenous communities, associations, and businesses.
- Prepare reports, presentations, briefing notes, and develop training materials/content.
Qualifications
Education
- Knowledge of English, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Native Canadian studies, Finance, and Law, with a strong understanding of Indigenous history, perspectives, and protocols.
- This knowledge is essential for conducting research, interpreting historical information, and evaluating impacts of government policies.
- Skills in communication theories are required for preparing reports, proposals, seminars, and maintaining relationships with management.
- Typically acquired through a 4-year university degree in a related field such as Social Sciences.
Experience
- Related experience in Community Relations, Project Development, Environment, Water Management, or Policy Development to assist with reports, research, and benchmarking activities.
- Experience in researching government policies and evaluating impacts on internal policies, standards, and manuals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working in interdisciplinary teams and developing presentations.
- 2 to 4 years of relevant experience is considered necessary.
