Job Summary :
Nurse Consultants (NCs) play an important role in the case management team by assessing and reviewing medical reports to identify and mitigate risk factors that impact recovery and return to work (RTW).
Application of nursing knowledge, skill and judgement when providing clinical advice, opinion and guidance. Supporting the development of recovery plans for an Injured Person (IP) and / or interpret medical / clinical findings as needed to ensure case progression towards achieving the best possible return to work, recovery, and / or quality of life outcomes throughout the case life cycle.
NCs interact, develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with case managers, return to work specialists, workers, worker families, health care providers and other WSIB staff to recognize and respond to complex needs, make and communicate timely, quality evidenced based / informed health care entitlement decisions.
As interventionists, identify and mitigate obstacles to return to work and / or recovery, resolving what is clearly of a medical / clinical nature and addressing non-medical issues appropriately, to prevent cases from becoming chronic. NCs work collaboratively with case owners and Adjudicators to identify individual case characteristics. The scope and duration of the NC intervention are based on these joint discussions. The individual case characteristics and nature of the obstacles will determine the scope and duration of NC involvement
