Job Description: As a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, the CMHN is accountable for the provision of screening, assessment, referral, case management, and treatment of individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. This includes persons who may be at risk of developing disability due to mental illness. The CMHN is accountable for the provision of education aimed at prevention and early intervention services to reduce incidence and disability due to mental illness.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN)

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

Other Education and Training:

  • Bachelor of Nursing is acceptable
  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Workplace Assessment & Violence Education (WAVE)
  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Basic - Organizational skills
  • Basic - Public relations skills
  • Intermediate - Interpersonal skills

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Service's Act
  • Ability to design, initiate and conduct in service training for others.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act
  • Knowledge in psychiatric diagnoses, treatment, and medications
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Social Services policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to conduct assessments/prioritize client needs/develop treatment plans
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Approved Home Policy & Regulations
