Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Elementary Music Teacher to join our dedicated faculty team. This position involves teaching music to students in Kindergarten through Grade 3, fostering a love for music, and building foundational skills in rhythm, melody, performance, and appreciation of various musical traditions.

The ideal candidate will bring creativity, enthusiasm, and strong classroom management skills, while integrating Alberta’s curriculum with engaging, culturally responsive teaching practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver dynamic music lessons in alignment with the Alberta curriculum and school objectives.
  • Teach fundamental music concepts such as rhythm, pitch, tempo, and musical notation.
  • Introduce students to a variety of musical genres, instruments, and cultural traditions, including opportunities for vocal and instrumental expression.
  • Organize and lead musical performances for school assemblies, events, and cultural celebrations.
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages participation, exploration, and confidence in musical expression.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and developmental stages of students.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support cross-curricular integration of music.
  • Evaluate and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students and parents.
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe, and inclusive music classroom environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school community activities.
Qualifications
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
  • Experience teaching elementary music is preferred; recent graduates with relevant music teaching experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory, classroom instruments (e.g., recorders, Orff instruments, percussion), and vocal techniques.
  • Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument.
  • Familiarity with diverse musical genres, including cultural and faith-based traditions.
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • A collaborative and adaptable teaching style aligned with the school’s mission and values.
