Responsibilities
- Performs minor and major repairs, servicing and up fitting on all types of vehicles, (cars, light truck, medium/heavytrucksand truck trailers) including mounted vehicleattachments (cranes,hirail, gensets etc.) and material handling equipment.
- Uses electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, and other vehicle repair tools to perform repairs.
- Records details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist at Fleet Management garage in times of operational needs.
- Stock the necessary parts in the service vehicle to do the job and keep inventory as required to perform the necessary repairs in the field.
- When on duty, will carry a cell phone and remain available at all times by end user or garage supervisor.
- Complete a Mobile Mechanic Weekly Planner and submit it to the garage supervisor for review prior to the following scheduled workweek.
- Keep track and submit all OCS expenses at latest by the end of the month.
- Generate repair orders through the RAC.
- Ensure that all the parts and labor times documented on the repair orders.
- Ensure that all repair orders are completed and submitted to the garage supervisor for review by the end of every work cycle.
- Other duties as assigned.
Employment Requirements
- HD Red Seal Certificate is required. Automotive Red Seal Certificate would be an asset.
- Other additional mechanic certification would be an asset.
- Must be able to pass the current Mechanic “A” test.
- Must be capable of servicing and repairing various types of Hirailequipment.
- Must have at least five years’ experience in the Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport repair trade.
- Capable of certifying company equipment in accordance with Provincial/Regulatory standards. Valid Provincial driver’s license is required. Air endorsement and class upgrade would be an asset.
- Capable to operate all types of vehicles and equipment serviced.
- Required to have own basic hand tools sufficient to perform repairs and servicing to all types of fleet equipment.
- Must be able to work either inside or outside at the terminal and away from the homebase.
Work Conditions
The mobile mechanic is expected to perform PMH inspections and general repairs (as per duties) across home-based province however not limited to. Outside work at terminals, in the field and shop environment will be required. Prolonged stay away from home when performing fieldwork may be required.
Work Schedule
- The work schedule will be 5 days on 2 days off or 8 days on and 6 days off depending on operational needs.
- Work schedules will be pre-determined & approved by supervisor prior to start of work shift.
- Fleet Management Garage will be the home base and reporting location at the beginning & end of each work block.
Vehicle
- The service vehicle will be a NSC vehicle. Mobile mechanic will be responsible to complete the vehicle daily inspection form and driver’s daily logs and submit the driver’s logs to the compliance office by the end of month.
- Mobile mechanic will be responsible to complete the NSC training every 3 years.
- Mobile mechanic will be responsible to follow the CN Vehicle Use Policy at all times when operating a CN vehicle.
- Work truck will be stationed at the Fleet Management garage.
