Job description

We are seeking a passionate and resourceful MedicalTransport Captain to join our Transport Office team. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safe, punctual, and comfortable transportation of our clients while supporting their daily care needs. You will take ownership of maintaining vehicle readiness, coordinating transport schedules, and ensuring client well-being during journeys.

Responsibilities
  • Safely transport residents to and from nursing homes, hospitals, specialist clinics, and community appointments, ensuring punctual, smooth, and comfortable journeys.
  • Operate medical transport vehicles in accordance with traffic regulations, defensive driving principles, and organisational safety protocols.
  • Assist residents with boarding and alighting, including wheelchair handling, securing mobility aids, and ensuring proper seatbelt and safety restraints.
  • Monitor residents’ general well-being during transit and perform basic visual health observations, escalating concerns to nursing or centre staff as required.
  • Respond appropriately to medical or emergency situations during transport, including administering basic life support (CPR/AED) when necessary, in accordance with training and protocols.
  • Ensure vehicle records are updated in CAMs and daily schedules comply to TMS.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness, cleanliness, and readiness for medical transport, including checks on safety and emergency equipment.
  • Support nursing homes with ad‑hoc transport needs (eg. medicine pick‑up)
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the vehicle.
  • Undertake multi‑skilled tasks or other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Possess a valid Class 4 driving licence.
  • Defensive driving certification is preferred.
  • Possess valid CPR and AED certification; certification must be kept current.
  • Certified Paramedic qualification is preferred (optional). Training will be provided for candidates without the certifications.
  • Prior experience in medical transport, hospitals, nursing homes, ambulance services, or community care settings is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle elderly or medically vulnerable individuals with care, patience, and professionalism.
  • Basic knowledge of emergency response procedures and safe patient handling techniques.
  • Experience in basic vehicle troubleshooting or mechanical repair is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare, nursing, and operations teams.
  • Able to work independently, manage time effectively under tight schedules, and adapt to changing transport needs.
  • Basic proficiency in digital transport/log systems.
