Job description

The Canadian Light Source is looking for an Electrical Engineer and a Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team. Our Engineering group supports the technical design, implementation, and maintenance of systems in our facility. We would love the chance to talk to qualified candidates who are interested in doing work that supports research at an international level.

The new Mechanical Engineer will focus on the operations and maintenance of hydronic and HVAC systems as well as planning and design for future expansions.

The new Electrical Engineer will work on design of our electrical power distribution, motion control of precision equipment, and PLC based control systems.

The Engineering team participates in many aspects of synchrotron design, modernization, operations, and maintenance. Our Engineers work in a collaborative with other professionals and apply their skills to projects that involve the full scope of work from design through to maintenance.

Qualifications you will need to succeed in this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • Eligible for professional membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)

For those applying for the Electrical Engineer position, any of the following qualifications are considered an asset (please be sure to highlight these in your application should you have them):

  • Experience in design, construction, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems and distributed control systems in an industrial facility
  • Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code including requirements for protection, motors, starters, transformers, wiring methods, and grounding
  • Experience with arc flash and coordination studies using ETAP or similar software
  • Experience in the design of motion control systems using stepper and servo motors
  • Programming of PLC-based control systems
  • Experience with safety rated systems
  • Experience with cooling water systems in a process plant setting
  • Experience with refrigeration and/or cryogenic systems
  • Experience with HVAC systems in a process plant setting
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards for electrical design
