Job summary

A leading supplier of marine technology is seeking a Marine Service Technician in Newfoundland, Labrador. This role involves installation, commissioning, and repair of electronic navigation equipment on commercial vessels. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background and exceptional customer care skills, and will be responsible for troubleshooting technical issues and training customers. Full training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in installation, commissioning, repair of electronic navigation equipment is a plus.
  • Willingness to participate in training programs required for offshore work.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weathers.

Responsibilities

Role Overview

Sperry Marine is a leading supplier of navigation, communication, information, and automation systems for commercial marine and naval markets. Headquartered in the United Kingdom, we have an extensive international presence across Europe, the Americas and Asia, employing almost 400 people across ten countries. We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Service team at our office in Newfoundland, Labrador. As a Marine Service Technician, you are an integral part of the Canadian Service Team, responsible for and focused on installation, commissioning and repair of electronic navigation equipment onboard commercial vessels.You will test, adjust, and troubleshoot components, PCBs, sub-assemblies, antennas and other related marine hardware; and will also load, update, and modify software. You will use your knowledge of electronic theory and circuitry to address a variety of technical problems; and will make intelligent use of complex schematics, blueprints, and manuals to accurately achieve assignments. Utilising your excellent customer care skills, you will provide technical training and guidance to customers on system installation, operation and maintenance, to help them resolve technical problems. This role is a great opportunity for someone to start their career in marine engineering as full training will provided. About You

  • A diploma or degree in an Engineering and / or Technical discipline in Electrical / Electronics or a combination of equivalent education, training, and / or experience.
  • Strong verbal communication and written reporting skills in English language.
  • Experience, troubleshooting complex marine electronic systems to a PCB level.
  • Ability to read complex schematics and / or blueprints to achieve objective for assigned tasks.
  • Ability to carry 20-25 Kg., comfortable working at height and in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working on board ships at sea and oil production platforms.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weathers.
  • Willingness to work away from home, weekends and occasional overtime during irregular hours to meet mission critical timelines (+ / -30%), often at short notice.
  • Currently trained or willing to participate in training programs required to work in the offshore sector.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotational schedule.
  • Driver’s license with a clean driving abstract. No pending restrictions.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Proficient in Windows operating system configuration and administration.

If you have any of the below experiences, even better :

  • Knowledge of Marine Navigation Systems including radar, gyrocompass, autopilot, VDR & GMDSS systems.
  • Experience in the installation, commissioning, repair and service of Marine Navigation Systems.
  • Knowledge of networking principles and IT skills.
  • Knowledge of motor control system theory.
  • Experience interfacing electronics to hydraulic systems.
