Job summary

A prestigious educational institution in Ontario is seeking a Manager Trainee to support HR recruiting and business operations. This temporary full-time role provides an opportunity to develop management skills within Ancillary Services. General Purpose

The purpose of the Manager Trainee program is to develop suitable potential candidates for consideration for future regular full-time employment opportunities in Ancillary Services supervisory and management positions.

Reporting to the Manager, Business Operations, the Manager Trainee will gain exposure to the daily management of the accounting, HR, and business operations supporting Ancillary Services comprised of Student Housing Services, Hospitality Services, Campus Parking Services, and Mail Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work in the following areas of the Business Office:

  • Support HR recruiting, job postings, candidate management, and onboarding.
  • Oversee vacation scheduling, leave requests, and ad hoc HR needs.
  • Process invoices and provide accounts payable support.
  • Perform account reconciliations for key divisional accounts.
  • Support the Manager, Business Operations with process improvements and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year post-secondary training plus some progressive experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Word, Excel, and internet-based systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Customer service orientation with professional demeanour.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, attention to detail, and accuracy.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in hospitality, student residence, or higher education environment would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes.
  • Knowledge of HR principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential through volunteer work, student organizations, or previous roles.
