Job description
The opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Head of Investor Relations (IR) and Global Communications, the Manager, ESG Communications will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the company’s CSR initiatives and ESG performance metrics. The Manager will be responsible for meeting ESG disclosure regulatory requirements and achieving sustainability reporting commitments. The manager will also support the compilation and completion of the Company’s various ESG disclosures including its annual sustainability report, rankings, surveys and questionnaires. The role is key to maintaining transparency with stakeholders as Gildan delivers on its ambitious ESG commitments.

The role
  • Support the preparation and publication of voluntary and mandatory ESG disclosures, including sustainability reports, regulatory requirements and ESG ratings.
  • Oversee the collection, validation and analysis of ESG data from various internal departments and external sources. Prepare content for Gildan’s annual ESG reporting and other public disclosure-related reports, ratings, and surveys following global standards (e.g., GRI, SASB, UNGCP, TCFD, CDP, MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, DJSI, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant reporting regulations and standards.
  • Help develop robust data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitor emerging trends and regulatory developments to ensure proactive compliance. Manage external advisers and contractors to determine critical priorities for ESG disclosure alignment and timelines for delivery.
  • Provide support to the SVP, Head of IR and Global Communications in the preparation of internal ESG reporting.
  • Identify and communicate emerging trends and sustainability initiatives, partnering with internal and external business partners.
  • Be well informed about regulatory developments and reporting requirements in the various jurisdictions in which the Company operates.
  • Build and present detailed project plans for sustainability reporting initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations to adopt new sustainable guidelines in alignment with our business.
The requirements
  • 7-8 years of sustainability experience, including cross-functional collaborations and ESG reporting.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in sustainability, finance, compliance or a related-environmental, social and environmental responsibility degree. Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute an asset.
  • Strong understanding of ESG topics and ESG-related standards and frameworks including GRI, SASB, UNGCP, and TCFD and third party ESG surveys and/or questionnaires (CDP, S&P CSA, ISS, WBA, Sustainalytics, etc.).
  • Excellent working knowledge of current sustainability reporting and disclosure requirements and trends, especially if gained within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong foundational understanding and experience with developing detailed project plans, process and controls including those over ESG data integrity and reporting/disclosure.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple reporting cycles and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work autonomously, with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, be proactive, taking initiative in delivering outcomes.
  • Ability to share knowledge and consider divergent viewpoints in a diverse and multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to adjust work hours around peak periods.
  • An excellent verbal and written communicator with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills to engage, manage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Highly detail-oriented, highly organized and results oriented with an ability to show initiative.
  • Ability to convey key messages in a concise manner through presentations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Bilingual – able to write and communicate fluently in English and French, Spanish an asset.
  • Work schedule requires a 5 days per week presence in person, with flexibility.
  • Some travel may be required, both local and international as needed.
  • This position requires proficiency in a language other than French to support customers, employees or markets located outside the province of Quebec or requiring services in a language other than French – mainly English.
