Job description

Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician

Location:

St. Charles, IL

Position Summary:

Smithfield Foods Packaged Meats Division is currently looking for a Maintenance Mechanic at our dry sausage manufacturing facility in St. Charles, Illinois.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Performs routine, proactive, corrective, and preventative maintenance in a commercial consumer packaged goods facility.
  2. Works third shift (10:30pm to 7am, start times may vary) with frequent weekend overtime.
  3. Provides emergency and scheduled repairs of production equipment during production and machine service.
  4. Prepares and sets up machinery for scheduled production runs.
  5. Performs mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs on packaging and production machines.
  6. Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders for maintenance and service.
  7. Complies with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Required Skills:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Technical training and experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, PLC, and pneumatic systems.
  • At least 2 years of related experience with packing or production machines.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Basic math skills and ability to read and write English at least at an 8th grade level.
  • Satisfactory score on maintenance technology skill assessment.
Wage Structure (testing required at each level):
  • Entry Level: $24.07 per hour
  • Level 1: $26.46 per hour
  • Level 2: $28.85 per hour (+.20 shift differential)
