Overview

Maintenance Automation Technician Night Shift at Novocol Pharma, a growing contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specialized in sterile injectable cartridges and combination product manufacturing. Located in Cambridge, Ontario.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Automation Technician is accountable to the Maintenance Supervisor for all activities related to troubleshooting and repair of production machinery and systems, as well as completion of necessary preventative maintenance, and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Production Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Responds promptly and acts independently and autonomously to troubleshoot issues related to mechanical, computerized, controls, and electronic systems having complex automation and interrelated circuits (i.e., PLCs, controllers, drives, electronic circuits, industrial PC’s) to determine the best course of action to address breakdowns and repairs.
  • Performs routine diagnostic checks on automated systems, monitors automated systems, and mechanical systems, including pneumatics and hydraulics. Isolate problems and perform repairs.
  • Uses various test instruments and PLC programs to diagnose problems.
  • Applies the knowledge and understanding of industrial electronic devices and systems, digital and analog circuits during the troubleshooting process.
  • Make use of hand and machine tools in the troubleshooting/repair processes.
  • Ensures that all electrical and automation work is completed according to respective codes.
  • Inspects and tests the operation of machinery and systems to diagnose faults using testing devices. Repairs and adjusts system components or removes and replaces defective parts.
  • Assists with on-the-job training for new employees to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate the use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Works closely in a collaborative manner with all Maintenance staff.
  • Performs preventive maintenance according to the SOPs and reports all deficiencies or unsafe working conditions found to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Participates in continuous improvement projects as required. Executes related assignments.
  • Participates in the Maintenance Shutdown activities, working independently or as part of a team on Maintenance assignments.
  • Observes and supports all safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Demonstrates and follows the Company’s mission, vision and values, policies, and current standard business practices.
  • Follows GMP and regulatory requirements and ensures quality standards are met.
  • Knowledge of GMP and other related regulations.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring junior Maintenance staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
  • Technology Diploma in Electrical, Mechatronics, System Design, or
  • Electro-Mechanical Technician / Technologist Degree complemented by formal Automation Training or
  • Technology Diploma in Electrical, Controls, and Automation
  • Industrial Electrician 442A license
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of Maintenance experience of mechanical, computerized, controls, and electronic systems having complex automation, preferably in GMP-governed industries
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural, mechanical, piping, pneumatic drawings, instrumentation drawings (PID), PLC ladder logics
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting, and understanding electrical diagrams/schematics.
  • Maintain annual Gowning Certification.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of maintenance-related programs.
  • Ability to travel internationally occasionally to other Septodont /NHI sites or suppliers.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure under tight timeframes.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and detail-orientation skills.

Competency
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems, including pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of instrumentation and field control devices.
  • Working knowledge in Allen Bradley PLC, Siemens and Honeywell platforms.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of industrial computerized systems.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of industrial electronic devices and systems, digital and analog circuits.
