Maintenance and Grounds Keeper

Department: Maintenance

Reports to: General Manager

General Description

The main responsibilities of the Maintenance and Groundskeeper are to maintain the overall condition, safety, and appearance of the Moraine Lake Lodge property and surrounding grounds. The primary function of this position is to complete routine groundskeeping duties such as gardening, yard work, and upkeep of guest pathways, as well as to operate and maintain landscaping and maintenance equipment. Other duties include, but are not limited to, performing minor maintenance tasks as required, assisting with firewood deliveries and distribution, and following all procedures outlined in the Maintenance Manual. This role also supports a positive team environment, promotes knowledge of Moraine Lake Lodge and Banff National Park to guests, and ensures all work is carried out in accordance with company health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Fulltime, working up to 40 hrs a week
  • Hourly starting wage of $22.00 per hour with an end of contract bonus
  • Staff accommodation onsite, $10.00/day, includes all meals and laundry
  • May 24th, 2026 – October 1st, 2026
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada prior to offer of employment
Groundskeeper Duties
  • Perform gardening tasks including planting, pruning, weeding, and general landscape upkeep
  • Complete routine yard work to maintain clean, safe, and well‑presented grounds
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair guest pathways to ensure safety and accessibility
  • Operate, maintain, and complete routine checks on landscaping equipment, including power mowers, skid‑steer, snowblower, chainsaw, electric clippers, pruning saws, and other related tools
  • Ensure all groundskeeping work is completed efficiently and to established property standards
Maintenance Duties
  • Carry out minor maintenance and basic repair tasks as required
  • Assist with firewood deliveries, stacking, and distribution
  • Follow all procedures, standards, and safety guidelines outlined in the Maintenance Manual
  • Report maintenance concerns, hazards, or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly
Teamwork & Other Duties
  • Maintain a positive working environment
  • Execute any reasonable business directive from MLL Management
  • Obtain knowledge of Moraine Lake Lodge and Banff National Park information and history. Promote Moraine Lake Lodge and surrounding areas
Safety Responsibilities
  • Take reasonable care to protect your own, co‑workers and guests’ health and safety
  • Know and follow all Capilano’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Ask for further training before taking on any task that you are unsure of or have not been trained on
  • Cooperate with the JOHS Committee and any person carrying out occupational health and safety duties
  • Use protective clothing, devices and equipment provided and find out what protective equipment is required for each task
  • Ensure your ability to work without risk to your health and safety or any other person’s safety is not impaired by alcohol, drugs or other causes
  • Be alert to hazards and immediately report hazards, defective equipment or concerns to your supervisor
Core Competencies

Mechanical Skills: Must be mechanically inclined, with the ability to safely operate, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting on landscaping and maintenance equipment. Comfortable and knowledgeable in the operation and upkeep of heavy diesel equipment. Must be diligent in completing maintenance checklists and routines and follow through on addressing any deficiencies or concerns promptly.

Guest Service Focus: Must be 100% guest service oriented and understand the needs of a demanding clientele.

Work Efficiency: Must be able to work with a minimal amount of supervision, manage time efficiently and handle multiple tasks/demands.

Qualifications
  • Class 4 license (cover any shuttle driver illness/absences) an asset, training provided for the right candidate
  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or general maintenance preferred
  • Ability to perform minor repairs, basic carpentry, plumbing, or building maintenance tasks
  • Strong attention to detail, able to follow procedures and checklists accurately
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks efficiently
Working Conditions
  • Able to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays, to meet the needs of the business
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow
  • Physically able to lift up to 45 lbs and perform repetitive tasks, including standing for extended periods and climbing ladders or step stools
