Job Summary

Provides intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person assisting the surgical team during an operative procedure.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education, Certification, Experience, and/or Licensure:
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, completion of a Surgical Technology program, completion of a Registered Nurse program, or completion of a summer surgical tech extern program OR High School Diploma or Equivalent with two (2) years of previous scrub experience.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Surgical Technology experience preferred.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the general responsibilities of this role. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  1. Utilize aseptic technique in sterile and unsterile roles in the OR.
  2. Assist the circulating RN in maintaining a sterile field and monitoring technique.
  3. Perform sponge, instrument, and needle counts following guidelines.
  4. Assist with gowning, gloving, and positioning of surgeons and equipment.
  5. Pass sterile instruments during surgery.
  6. Assist with patient transportation, positioning, and retractor holding under surgeon’s direction.
  7. Prepare supplies and equipment per preference cards.
  8. Help sterilize and maintain supplies and equipment.
  9. Monitor, order, and restock inventory.
  10. Remove outdated items and reprocess or discard as appropriate.
  11. Assist with cleaning duties.
  12. Perform equipment checks as assigned.
  13. Record patient charges accurately.
  14. Respond to call within 30 minutes.
Physical Requirements

Must meet the following physical demands or have accommodations:

  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds and pushing carts up to 200 lbs.
  • Visual, hearing, oral acuity, manual dexterity, and technical skills.
  • Ability to wear lead for extended periods.
