Position

The locomotive electrician is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting locomotives and their components. We’re ready to train you if you have some electrical experience.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the different rules and regulations for safety, operations and Transport Canada.
  • Performs periodic and annual inspections and understands different regulations pertaining to inspections.
  • Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect and install electrical equipment, including but not limited to rheostats, control systems, transformers, motors, generators, electric lighting fixtures, cab heaters, batteries and their charging systems, speed recorders, air compressor controls, temperature switches, starters, axle generators, coils, contactors, relays and governors.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance on all electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot and test single and three-phase electrical systems on diesel electric locomotives which include grounded components and wiring, high and low voltage, wheel slip, transition and electrical load or no-load conditions.
  • Work safely.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
General Requirements
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience or a professional certificate in either the Electromechanical or Electrical field.
  • Experience in railway (asset)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations: working hours, service calls, overtime, tasks to accomplish, outside of the work location, etc.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and have an ease to communicate with others.
  • Must be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate a high level of autonomy and resourcefulness.
  • Must possess experience or knowledge in programmable automation. (asset)
