Overview

Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. Working within the full scope of practice, the LPN observes, monitors, reports, and documents changes in the patients physical, mental, and emotional state, assists the patient with activities of daily living and provides the patient and family with relevant information and teaching. The LPN is responsible to collaborate as a member of the health care team, delivering consistent quality care, to meet the needs of the patient.

Responsibilities

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Experience willing to work on all Medicine units. Shift work is required.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and contribute to patient/client planning processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, compassionate and caring attitude, attention to detail.
  • Leadership and decision-making ability with sound clinical judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to cope and perform in stressful and/or emergency situations; the position is physically demanding.
  • Ability to assist with all levels of care for bariatric patients and handle 21–50 pounds frequently.
  • Strong communication skills across modalities and the ability to adapt communication style to meet patient/family needs and relay information to primary health care providers, on and off-site, in a timely, concise, accurate manner.
  • 2 years of recent acute adult experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Palliative nursing care experience would be an asset.
  • Computer experience is preferred.
  • Proof of active registration with the CLPNA and to maintain registration throughout employment.
  • Offer of employment will be conditional upon acceptance of a completed Communicable Disease Assessment (CDA) form.
