Overview

The Opportunity

Multi-disciplinary Lead Engineer (Civil or Mechanical), with significant experience in design and construction management of pump stations in our Vancouver Howe street office. Additional or transferable equal skills would include public sector treatment facilities or large intake infrastructure from lakes, dams or sea.

Reporting to the Director Conveyance & Infrastructure Planning, you will lead the design and contract management of pump station, reservoir and impoundment intake/outlet infrastructure. You will be responsible to work on projects for municipal clients, leading small, medium and large municipal water & wastewater pump station, reservoir and bulk water projects and programs including planning, feasibility studies, preliminary design, detailed design and constructability assessments. As a key member of the team, you will deal directly with clients and approval agencies.

  • Project Management
    • Assist in managing bulk potable water pipelines (water main), sewage pipelines (force main and gravity main) and reticulation projects in Mainland Vancouver.
    • Manage and execute multiple concurrent projects through effective leadership, delegation and staff development.
    • Prepare accurate and timely financial status reports for clients and WSP’s leadership.
    • Uphold quality policies and procedures set by WSP and the Client.
  • Project Staffing and Client Relationships
    • Define staffing and resource requirements in consultation with team leads and supervisors.
    • Cultivate positive relationships with clients, earning their trust as a trusted adviser by providing exceptional service.
    • Ensure compliance with professional and construction contract terms and monitor subcontractors’ commitments.
  • Technical Expertise
    • Lead the analysis, design, construction administration, and preparation of technical reports for design projects.
    • Independently create detailed designs, plans, specifications, and estimates for bulk potable water pipelines (water main), sewage pipelines (force main and gravity main) and reticulation infrastructure design projects.
    • Foster innovation and implement industry-leading solutions
    • Ensure accuracy in design by driving integrated 3D design tools
  • Client Engagement and Integration
    • Interact directly with personnel from our Client’s organizations, including face-to-face progress meetings.
    • Lead or participate in client development activities, identify/develop leads, position for opportunities, write proposals, and support presentations related to bulk potable water pipelines (water main), sewage pipelines (force main and gravity main) and reticulation infrastructure projects.
What you'll bring to WSP:
  • 10+ years of technical engineering skills in bulk potable water pipelines (water main), sewage pipelines (force main and gravity main), and reticulation infrastructure design;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field required, Master’s degree a plus;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and prepare written reports and documents;
  • Professional Engineer or eligibility for registration with PEO;
  • Previous experience managing and delivering civil engineering design projects;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate and direct development of large projects and pursuits with complex features;
  • Understanding of how to financially manage projects;
  • Ability to work independently; and
  • Ability to mentor junior staff.
Compensation:

Salary range (in British Columbia): $113,500 - $156,000

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
