Job summary

A leading insurance provider in Calgary is seeking an experienced sales professional to develop annual business plans and manage territory objectives. The ideal candidate will bring 5-7 years of sales experience, strong knowledge of group insurance, and excellent communication skills. This full-time role offers a hybrid work environment and an attractive commission structure based on performance.

Qualifications

  • Five to seven years of proven sales experience with emphasis on initiating contact.
  • Driver’s Licence required, must have own vehicle available daily.
  • Must possess Life / Accident & Sickness Licence and E&O Insurance.

  • Develop Annual Business Plan for approval by Manager National Sales & Marketing.
  • Manage Territory based on Business Plan and company objectives.
  • Contact, build and maintain Plan Advisor relationships.

Job Overview

Plan and execute Annual Business Plan to achieve the Group Operations business goals / targets for sales and to achieve necessary persistency and profitability targets for the territory. Assume a senior role on Wawanesa Life’s Marketing Team in the promotion of Wawanesa Life as a provider of group insurance in the marketplace.

Salary and Benefits

The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors including location, market conditions, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary range is estimated to be $80,000 – $95,000. In addition to base salary, an attractive commission structure rewards top performers. You will receive 10% on top of your first-year commission for sales made, paid out monthly. This role is sales-driven and earnings reflect performance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop Annual Business Plan for approval by Manager National Sales & Marketing
  • Manage Territory based on Business Plan and company objectives
  • Implement Business Plan
  • Contact, build and maintain Plan Advisor relationships as necessary, ensuring Advisor selection meets company standards
  • Provide feedback on market activity in the assigned region; establish new broker relationships as necessary
  • Manage activities within the allocated expense budget
  • Manage quoting and renewal activity
  • Receive, evaluate quotation opportunities and approve submissions to underwriting for quote process or issue field decline
  • Review, deliver/forward and follow-up final quotations/renewals issued to Plan Advisors
  • Assist Plan Advisor in presentation of quote or renewal to client where necessary
  • Work with Executive Office team to aid in developing new product opportunities based on market trends and Plan Advisor feedback
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Five to seven years of proven sales experience with emphasis on initiating contact, presenting and closing sales
  • Knowledge of group insurance, group pricing and small business benefits market is an asset
  • University Degree in Business Administration and/or CEBS Designation
  • GBA designation (under CEBS program) required within 2 years of hire
  • Driver’s Licence is required and must have own vehicle available daily
  • Must possess Life / Accident & Sickness Licence and E&O Insurance
  • Travel as necessary within the region as outlined in the Business Plan (including overnight travel)
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong team player with the ability to work cooperatively with marketing assistants, regional group managers and Executive Office Personnel
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and listening) and the ability to communicate with all levels of authority
  • Effective decision making and problem solving skills
  • Commitment to personal development by keeping current with changes in the industry
  • Knowledgeable about Wawanesa Life Group product offering, group contracts, underwriting procedures and administration practices
  • Ability to manage and measure self; strong business acumen and ability to negotiate balanced solutions for the Company and client
