Job summary

A leading Canadian university located in Victoria is seeking an individual for a part-time role focusing on providing statistical support and organizing workshops. The position requires strong written communication skills and knowledge of multiple operating systems and statistical software. Applicants should be authorized to work in Canada and must be willing to work at the campus. This is a remote-friendly role with a pay rate of $18.50 per hour, expected to require 15 hours of work each week.

Hiring Unit:

Computational and Data Systems Institute

Position Summary:
  • Providing answers to statistical or computing related questions;
  • Organizes individuals as well as events such as workshops and sessions
  • Assist during events, workshops, or sessions.
  • Maintain and monitor the DaSSH online request form:
  • Communicate incoming requests to the consulting team
  • Schedule client meetings using the Outlook calendar
  • Close completed requests
  • Track and maintain project progress, project management tools (OpenProject and GitLab)
  • Monitor consultant work hours and project counts on a weekly and quarterly basis
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by company directors and coordinators.
  • The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent. For example, incumbents may be asked to perform some elements of IT Assistant level “A” and/or “B” in addition to the above listed Functions.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of more than one computer operating system (Linux, Mac, Windows) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of statistical software packages ( e.g. R, Stata, SAS) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of programming software ( e.g. Python) is an asset.
  • Incumbent must be in Montreal, but this role can be done remotely.
