Instrumentation Technician

Starting pay rate range is from $ 28.00 to $ 31.00 per hour.

Rotek Environmental Inc. has an employment opportunity for a Junior Instrumentation Technician. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm working from our Hamilton office located at 15 Keefer Court. We offer a health/dental benefit package and matching RRSP plan.

Rotek Environmental Inc. specializes in air quality monitoring providing a wide range of services to both government and private sector clients. Rotek has a solid reputation for its technical expertise, equipment knowledge and field support services. Our firm is well recognized throughout the industry.

For over 30 years, Rotek has excelled in the installation, operation and maintenance of air monitoring networks and instrumentation. We custom manufacture our own line of air monitoring stations and sampling equipment. In addition, we manage and support one of the largest rental fleets of ambient air sampling equipment in Canada.

The job description includes but is not limited to:

  • Operate and maintain air sampling equipment and support instrumentation
  • Review and evaluate equipment diagnostics and air monitoring data
  • Identify equipment problems, prioritize services, liaise with staff and clients on issues
  • Travel to field sites to conduct routine maintenance and calibration of air monitoring instrumentation
  • Maintain and manage a fleet of rental equipment and spare parts
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment both in-house and at field sites
  • Assemble, test, install and commission air monitoring stations and equipment
  • Participate in sampling surveys as needed
  • Additional hours, working evenings and on weekends (overtime paid after 40 hours) as needed
  • Extended travel and work out of town when required
  • Ongoing safety and equipment training
  • Provide background research on equipment as needed

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Post-secondary education or associate degree in Instrumentation or Electronics
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Strong communication, organizational, computer and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience in working with tools and test equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work in heavy industrial environments and various climate conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights (typically 3m)
  • Ability to work inside small air monitoring stations (typically 3x4m)
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 25kg)
  • Knowledge of electrical safety and ability to work with energized equipment
  • Ability to accurately complete service logs and repair tickets
  • Ability to reference OEM manuals and understand basic schematic diagrams

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Previous experience in working in this (or similar) role
  • Experience in working with gas cylinders, test and calibration equipment
  • Experience in working with and programming data loggers
  • Experience in working with meteorological sensors
  • Acute sense of industrial safety protocols
