Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Inclusive Education Lead (IEL) to join our team in a 0.6 - 0.75 FTE role. The IEL will oversee and support our learning support program working closely with students, families, teachers, education assistants (EAs), counsellors and administration. The successful candidate will bring both professional expertise in inclusive education and a heart for Christian ministry within the school context.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Program Oversight: Lead and manage the school\'s inclusive education program in alignment with the BC curriculum, Ministry guidelines and Christian values.
- Oversee the development, implementation and review of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for funded and non-funded students.
- Collaborate with school administration, teachers, EAs and counsellors to provide effective strategies, accommodations and interventions.
- Determine EA support levels for students and coordinate EA scheduling.
- Provide guidance on behavioural support and regulation strategies for students.
Responsibilities (continued)
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with administration, classroom teachers and parents to ensure student success.
- Lead regular meetings with EAs and provide professional guidance, training and encouragement.
- Liaise with external professionals (OT, PT, SLP, psychologists) and Indigenous Band representatives as needed.
- Communicate IEP updates with parents and staff (approximately 23 times per year).
Student Support
- Provide direct support to students through in-class assistance, small group work or one-on-one interventions.
- Support classroom teachers in implementing differentiated instruction and inclusive practices.
Professional Development
- Stay current with best practices in inclusive education and relevant legislation.
- Provide or coordinate professional development for staff related to inclusive education.
Qualifications
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate (required).
- Experience as a Learning Support Teacher (LST) or in a similar special education leadership role.
- Strong understanding of IEP development, differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Experience with restorative practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, staff and families.
- Excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills.
- Commitment to living out and integrating the school\'s Christian values in all aspects of the role.
Preferred
- Additional coursework or certification in Special Education.
- Experience in a Christian independent school setting.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or SIVA training.
