Architectural Metals (Metals) is a segment within Apogee that is a provider of aluminum windows, curtainwall (soon to be retired), storefront and entrance systems. Position Summary

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) will serve as a hands-on partner to the Toronto manufacturing plant and functional leadership across Apogee Architectural Metals, advancing people practices that support safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This role leads day-to-day employee relations, workforce planning, coaching for leaders, and HR processes throughout the employee lifecycle. It also supports continuous improvement using data to reduce turnover, improve attendance, and strengthen engagement.

The HRBP will work closely with Apogee Centers of Excellence (CoEs) and Shared Services teams to deliver solutions in areas such as recruitment, training, compensation, and employee relations. While this role does not take the lead in these functions, it is critical to partner effectively with internal teams to ensure the timely and successful delivery of HR services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic HR Partnership: Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement HR strategies that support business objectives.
  • Trusted advisor to managers and employees on organizational design, workforce planning, and team effectiveness.
  • Partner with Sales and other departments to address unique workforce needs, including commission structures, goal setting, and career development.
  • Act as a change agent to drive cultural initiatives and promote alignment with organizational values.
  • Collaboration with CoEs and Shared Services: Work with Apogee CoEs and Shared Services to deliver solutions for recruitment, training, compensation, and other HR functions. Serve as a liaison between business leaders and CoEs to ensure alignment and understanding of business needs.
  • Facilitate the implementation of programs and processes developed by CoEs within supported teams.
  • Employee Relations and Engagement: Proactively address employee concerns and foster a culture of open communication and trust. Support managers in addressing performance issues and developing action plans for improvement. Mediate and resolve employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with policies and legal requirements. Partner with leaders to enhance employee engagement and retention.
  • Talent Management Support: Collaborate with CoEs to facilitate onboarding, training, and leadership development initiatives. Support managers in performance reviews with coaching and guidance. Partner with CoEs on succession planning and workforce development strategies.
  • HR Operations and Compliance: Ensure HR policies are applied consistently and comply with laws. Leverage HRIS tools for reporting and data analysis to inform business decisions. Provide insights into turnover, engagement, and productivity to drive continuous improvement. Collaborate with corporate HR teams to ensure consistent application of company-wide initiatives and policies.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in an HR professional role. Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus but not required. Workday HRIS experience preferred. Payroll-related experience is a plus.
  • Certifications: CHRP / CHRL certification preferred.
  • Skills: Strong business acumen and ability to align HR strategies with business goals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels. Demonstrated ability to manage complex employee relations issues with discretion and professionalism. Analytical skills to interpret HR data and provide actionable insights. Proficiency with HRIS tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Conditions
  • Environment: Office setting with regular visits to various work sites, including industrial or construction environments.
  • Physical Demands: May require standing, walking, and site inspections in various weather conditions.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to other Metals locations and Apogee headquarters in Minneapolis (up to 10%).
