The HideLaboureris responsible for cleaning and maintaining the plant site. Labourers assist in maintaining site dispensers, preparing waste for disposal and efficiently unloading and offloading trucks containing raw materials and/or finished product, while maintaining a clean and safe working environment. NOTE: this role requires someone who is a daptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odours and proximity to animal by-products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receive and unload incoming hides from conveyances
  • Grade, sort, and trim hides and ensure they meet or exceed company and customer expectations
  • Load and unload hide brining tanks in a safe and efficient manner
  • Trans load Specified Risk Material (SRM) removed carcasses as required
  • Maintain tools and equipment used in the hide process
  • Monitor brine salinity by adding salt and synchlorozene content accordingly
  • Perform thorough pre-trip inspection checks of mobile equipment
  • Load outbound hide trucks using mobile equipment
  • Adhere to strict requirements related to cleanliness and safe operations of specific material risk handling
  • Perform shift work based on company business needs which evolve and change in response to customer demands
  • Work overtime as instructed to ensure minimal downtime of facilities
  • Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies
  • Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS & FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract an asset
  • 1-2 years of experience in a hide plant or similar environment an asset
  • Hides and skins knowledge and knife skills an asset
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures
  • Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 100 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance
  • Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily
  • Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odours and animal by-products
