Job Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), this position is accountable to lead a team responsible for meeting the needs of injured workers and their employers for timely, quality health care services through the identification of and contracting with appropriate health care providers, associations, diagnostic and rehabilitation facilities, the accrediting and monitoring of the services provided on an ongoing basis, the arrangement for services for injured workers and the interpretation of subsequent results.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Contribute to meeting the WCB objectives of “best in industry services” through the development, delivery and implementation of education and service level standards that are necessary for individuals and facilities to be eligible to provide health care services to injured workers in Saskatchewan.
- Ensure that required health care services are available when needed to injured workers through the identification of appropriate health care provider services, teams and rehabilitation facilities and the negotiation of cost effective fee for service contracts.
- Ongoing relationship building with health care providers/associations that ensures that the services provided to injured Saskatchewan workers meet established service and quality standards through the accrediting of individuals and facilities, monitoring performance on an ongoing basis and investigating and resolving complaints in a timely appropriate manner.
- Ensure that injured workers receive diagnostic and treatment services as soon as possible once the assessment requests are received from Case Managers by providing for booking and transportation (when necessary) arrangements in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Contribute to the expedient treatment of injured workers once diagnoses are confirmed by interpreting medical reports as necessary and facilitating the start of treatment that sometimes includes determining/approving the need for special treatment services not covered by Saskatchewan Health.
- Contribute to the attainment of the WCB short-term and long-term goals through the development and implementation of department strategic and operating plans and budgets that are aligned with and support division and corporate plans taking action relative to variances as necessary.
- Supervision of specified Health Care Consultants, Health Service Facilitators and the Supervisor of the Health Care Coordinator Unit.
- Contribute to the attainment of divisional plans, continual business process and program improvements and WCB strategic goals by participating as a member of the division management team providing particular input from a health care services standpoint and other input and project participation assistance as appropriate.
- Participate in interdepartmental activities and attend interdepartmental meetings as assigned by the CMO.
- Contribute to the task of enhancing and protecting the image of the SWCB with all its publics.
- Directs, supports, and/or participates in the development and maintenance of Business Continuity Plan, ensuring plan is complete and current.
- Develops, implements and manages an integrated human resource management plan for the department ensuring that they are linked to corporate strategies. This includes staffing, training and development including regular coaching of staff, organizational and management development, succession planning and performance management.
- Ensures WCB’s compliance with the legal framework, policies, standards and procedures within applicable privacy legislation.
- Ensures a safe and healthy working environment in areas of responsibility through the development of a safety culture.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
A university degree or equivalent health care professional designation supplemented with experience in a health care profession. A good understanding of disability management principles would be an asset as well as the knowledge of and experience in interacting with other heath care professions.
