Overview
Under the guidance of the National Health & Safety Manager, you will maintain and lead health & safety programs, conduct inspections and audits as well as meetings and training sessions. This role will provide practical expertise and tactical execution of the Company’s H&S programs, resulting in legislative compliance and a safe, healthy and secure working environment.
This position will be based out of our Montreal, QC branch with consistent travel within Montreal and eventually within Atlantic Canada.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure effective & consistent implementation of Health and Safety policies and programs, influencing leadership teams; act as the conduit for guidance and advice
- Partner with Operations to ensure all safety issues are addressed & resolved.
- Guide leaders to improve safety behaviours
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable current and proposed legislative requirements and trends in occupational health and safety
- Be the visible, front-line representative for health & safety on site
- Conduct in person / on-site audits in warehouses, shops, offices and with service technicians to ensure that the actions resulting from these audits and action plans are appropriately prioritized and implemented.
- Investigate incidents, conduct root-cause analysis and provide recommendations for corrective and preventive measures
- Assist with the development and improve programs related to Health and Safety.
- Monitor and stay updated on new legislation, industry trends and best practices
QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluently bilingual in both French & English
- 3-5 years of experience in Health and Safety and / or working towards a Certified Registered Safety Professional designation (CRSP / PSAC)
- Strong knowledge of OHSA / OSHA and related legislation
- Experience and / or knowledge within the retail petroleum industry is an asset
- Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills
- Flexible, open and an approachable attitude
- Ability to liaise with and build-effective working relationships with various business partners and managing collaborative strategic relationships and partnerships both internally and with subcontractors
- Ability to effectively work with minimal supervision within a collaborative team setting
- Experience with safety audits
- Knowledge of ISNetworld, Avetta and ComplyWorks contractor sites would be an asset
EDUCATION
- Post Secondary education, specializing in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Outdoor, warehouse, shop and office environments
- Able to travel to locations across Canada as required, specifically Eastern Canada.
