Exciting Opportunity: Health Care Support Worker (HCAP) – Paid Training Program!

Location: Rocky Mountain Village, Fernie BC
Employment: Permanent, Full-time
Start Dates: Work experience begins February 2026, with studies starting April 2026
Hourly Rate: $24.80
Education: $930.00 per week during the classroom/online studies

Are you ready to start a meaningful career where you can make a real difference in the lives of seniors? Through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP), you’ll earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience and the education needed to become a registered Health Care Aide—all while being paid!

Program Highlights
  • This program runs for 10-18 months and provides both on-the-job training and education.
  • Successful completion makes you eligible to apply for registration with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Work as a regular, full-time Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) while earning $24.80/hour.
  • Obtain required practicum hours while supporting clients, residents, and their families.
  • While attending classroom or online studies, receive an educational allowance of $930.00/week (paid bi-weekly).
Commitment to Your Career

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will transition into Health Care Aide roles and are required to complete 12 months of service with the Village.

Your Role as a Health Care Support Worker

As an integral member of our healthcare delivery team, you’ll provide essential non-clinical support to enhance the quality of life for clients and residents. Your duties will include:

  • Establishing rapport with clients, residents, and families, promoting their overall well-being.
  • Observing and reporting unsafe conditions or changes in behavior/physical health.
  • Assisting with mealtime activities, light food preparation, and setting up dining areas.
  • Supporting recreational activities, encouraging participation, and providing assistance.
  • Performing housekeeping tasks like cleaning, laundry, and dishwashing.
  • Greeting visitors and adhering to safety, security, and infection control protocols.
What We're Looking For
  • Successful completion of Grade 10, including successful completion of English 10 or equivalency.
  • No prior completion of an HCA training program in BC.
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residence.
  • Able to commit to entire program duration, which is expected to be anywhere from 10-18 months in length.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of carrying out physical duties included in the position.
  • A compassionate individual with a passion for helping others.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A team player who thrives in a supportive environment.
  • No prior experience required – we provide all the training!
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector - Criminal Record Check.
