Overview

As a Health & Safety Consultant, you will provide health and safety training, support, guidance, and advice to workplace parties within the specific sector in the Province of Ontario. This role develops proactive initiatives and strategies to foster health and safety as a core business value among clients. Reporting to the Senior Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, the role involves ongoing client engagement and building relationships to help clients improve health and safety outcomes and position PSHSA as a leader in client-focused solutions.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, the Health and Safety Consultant provides health and safety training, support, guidance, and advice to all workplace parties within the Province of Ontario. This position develops proactive initiatives and strategies to foster health and safety as a core business value among clients. The role involves ongoing client engagement, building client relationships to help them improve health and safety outcomes, and positioning PSHSA as a leader in delivery of client-focused solutions.

How You’ll Make An Impact
Relationship Management
  • Initiates, fosters, maintains and develops relationships with the sector (worker, employer union, key partners and associations)
  • Regularly identifies partnership opportunities and makes appropriate referrals
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with colleagues, external clients’ associations, and key partners to advance PSHSA’s objectives
  • Identify and develop consulting relationships with sector associations and networking groups to advance knowledge/awareness of OHS/PSHSA and promote benefits of health and safety initiatives
Client Engagement
  • Proactively and reactively analyzes customer needs and concerns by researching the client’s history through various sources and applies health and safety expertise to improve their current program(s)
  • Develops and coordinates training schedules to meet needs
  • Promotes the benefits of implementing health & safety initiatives; utilizes internal consulting processes to support and direct clients in developing customized health & safety programs
  • Prepares and presents effective proposals to sector clients to illustrate benefits of PSHSA products and services
  • Seeks opportunities for revenue generation through selling/up-selling
Operational / Subject Matter Expertise
  • Provides health and safety consulting services and collaborates with other PSHSA consultants to reduce workplace hazards and injuries
  • Provides on-site private and public health & safety training and facilitation services
  • Assists in the development, review, and implementation of PSHSA products, programs and services
  • Collaborates with internal teams to identify, develop and deliver strategies to meet market needs
  • Translates and applies Occupational Health and Safety Act legislation into practical application
  • Responds to client information requests promptly and maintains records of activities
  • Researches and stays informed about common health & safety trends within the sector
Your Strengths and Expertise
  • A university degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Post-secondary completion of a health and safety program
  • Designation(s) in health and safety or related disciplines (e.g., CRSP, CCPE ROH) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Knowledgeable in health and safety legislation, auditing, and management systems
  • Significant experience in consulting, managing a client base, building relationships and achieving targets
  • Excellent facilitator with knowledge of adult learning principles and ability to deliver training
  • Able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Works well independently and in a team
  • Proficient with software including Microsoft Office, Excel, and CRM systems
