Job summary

A prominent university library in Toronto is looking for an Associate Librarian/Archivist or Senior Librarian/Archivist to head its Archives & Special Collections. Candidates should possess a Master's degree in Library/Information Studies or Archival Studies, alongside a strong background in archival management and collaboration. Qualifications

  • Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or a master's degree in archival studies meeting Canada's guidelines.
  • Ten years of professional experience as an archivist, preferably in the academic sector.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build collaborative teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Evidence of research contributions via publications or presentations.
  • Experience with archival processing and descriptive standards.
  • Familiarity with content management systems related to archival description.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate user-centered archival practices and preservation.
  • Manage the unit by evaluating services and developing policies.
  • Work collaboratively within the Libraries to support infrastructure.
  • Lead and prioritize team activities based on community needs.
  • Ensure quality services through policy implementation.
  • Coordinate material acquisitions for sustainable growth.
  • Promote archives via lectures, workshops, and publications.
