Head Chef – Maligne Lake

As Head Chef of Maligne Lake, you will lead a seasonal culinary team across multiple dining concepts — from à la carte to banquet, café‑style service and quick service. In this key leadership role, you will support, coach and inspire your team to deliver outstanding dining experiences, fostering a culture of teamwork, productivity and professionalism, focusing on and standards in deliverance on key results and a balanced scorecard approach throughout the varying kitchen operations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team to achieve success in a balanced scorecard framework, focusing on Financial, Guest experience, Team engagement and Promise to Place initiatives, targets and results.
  • Recruit and retain a seasonal based culinary team that supports a culture of teamwork, adaptability and productivity.
  • Develop and execute culinary training that aligns with Pursuit food and beverage standard operating practices that effectively sets up each role for success.
  • proper daily checklists are established, in place and adhered to, in alignment with Pursuit culinary standards and expectations, as well as Alberta food safe and hygiene compliancy.
  • Focus on cross functional opportunities in labor utilization, food cost management and team member growth.
  • Collaborate with Executive Chef in the development and execution of innovative, on‑brand menus tailored to each outlet’s concept and guest expectations.
  • Monitor menu performance, providing regular updates to site G.M., being proactive in identifying any issues to be addressed.
  • Mentor, expedite, and participate in food preparation, ensuring all dishes meet standards of quality, taste, portion, and presentation.
  • Adhere to financial forecasts and established budgets being aligned to expected cost control practices and targets.
  • Prepare weekly staff schedules, balancing operational needs, budget constraints, and service standards.
  • Maintain accurate par levels and oversee ordering using approved vendors, ensuring proper rotation and storage of product.
  • Conduct performance reviews, identify high‑potential team members, and foster succession planning.
  • Conduct daily inspections on cleanliness, food safe best practices and organization within the kitchen areas.
  • Oversee the proper functioning and cleanliness of all kitchen equipment and workspaces.
  • Promote a culture of workplace safety and ensure all staff and work areas adhere to safety standards.
  • Foster a positive, diverse, and inclusive work environment, focusing on coaching and development of less experienced team members.
  • Create a culture of empowerment, teamwork, continuous improvement, and a passion for positivity while providing exceptional hospitality.
  • Lead by example in upholding company standards, rules, and operating procedures.
  • Motivate, coach, and, when necessary, performance manage team members professionally and in alignment with Pursuit’s policies.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven success in high‑volume, fast‑paced operations.
  • Additional certification(s) in Food & Beverage will be an advantage.
  • Certified Advanced Food Safety Training is considered an asset.
  • 3 + years in a management level role.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills with a focus on coaching and growth.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of quality, consistency, and safety.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Excel, Word, & PowerPoint and inventory systems/practices.
  • Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in English language.
  • Red Seal Certification or equivalent qualifications/experience.
Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Maligne Lake General Manager with functional responsibility to the Jasper‑region Executive Chef and will collaborate closely with the Maligne Lake F&B Manager.
