Role Overview

GDI is a rapidly expanding fast-fashion retailer. Its portfolio includes over 300 leases across Canada, the USA, and the UK.

In your capacity as Jr. Legal Advisor, you are an integral member of the in-house Legal team, primarily supporting a Senior Legal Counsel in all aspects of the company's commercial leasing activities.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial lease agreements, including offers, leases, letters of intent, lease renewals, and amendment agreements;
  • Ensure that all leasing documents comply with internal standards, company policies, and relevant federal, state, and local laws;
  • Conduct detailed legal research on leasing laws, landlord-tenant disputes, property rights, and regulatory compliance issues;
  • Assist the Legal Counsel and Vice President with special projects and renewal processes;
  • Review and prepare lease summaries, estoppel certificates, and other legal notices and related documentation;
  • Manage and organize due diligence materials related to leasing transactions, including various reports;
  • Working closely with the Leasing, Real Estate, and Finance teams to provide practical legal information;
  • Maintain and update the company's master lease forms and ensure the accurate archiving of executed documents.
Qualifications
  • Active membership in good standing with the Quebec Bar Association;
  • 1 to 3 years of post-qualification experience in commercial real estate, corporate law, or contract law is an asset, with experience specifically in commercial leasing being a significant asset;
  • Bilingualism (French and English, written and spoken) is required for daily communication with suppliers, employees, and stakeholders, both within and outside of Quebec;
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and evolve in a fast-paced environment;
  • Autonomous and capable of managing priorities.
