Hatch is embarking on an exciting new chapter as we build our inaugural Government Relations practice – a strategic capability that will shape how we collaborate with policymakers, advance priority issues for our clients, and position Hatch as a key enabler of government projects around the world. This is a unique opportunity to join a team at its inception and help support its direction and impact as a Senior Advisor, Government Relations.

We are seeking only the best and brightest – strategic thinkers, relationship builders, and self-starters – who want to help architect a world class Government Relations function within a global, entrepreneurial engineering and consulting organization. As part of this founding team, you will have a direct hand in standing up new processes, shaping our advocacy approach, and building long term partnerships across government and industry.

As a Senior Advisor, Government Relations you will carry out strategic engagement with government officials and key stakeholders across Hatch’s various operating geographies. Your role will have two core components:

Networking and Advocacy

  • You will work with colleagues from various Hatch teams as part of core business pursuit campaigns, providing expert advice on government decision‑making process, political considerations / influence opportunities, and carrying out mappings of the government / stakeholder ecosystem.
  • You will be a dedicated advocate of Hatch’s value proposition, seeking every opportunity to promote Hatch’s capabilities to government officials / associated stakeholders. You will plan and carry out networking / lobbying activities, helping position Hatch as a key enabler of government projects in infrastructure, energy, and mining + metals.

Policy Analysis and Training Support

  • You will support Hatch executives through professional policy / political analysis, assessing the opportunities / impact of various legislations and regulatory changes on Hatch’s operations.
  • You will also help design and carry out ‘Government Relations 101’ trainings for other Hatch executives across our various geographies, mapping out the political / decision‑making ecosystem, identifying business opportunities for Hatch through engaging in government relations, and training Hatch execs on how to carry our government relations / stakeholder outreach

This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep knowledge of politics and public policy as well as strong sales and networking abilities. Past working experience in Canadian politics / policy is necessary and a strong understanding of politics/public policy in the United States, Australia, South America and Europe is a definite plus.

You are an experienced mid‑level professional capable of independently carrying out advocacy / networking activities as well as writing quality briefing notes and in‑depth memos on short notice. You are capable of running multiple projects / campaigns simultaneously and are always willing to go the extra mile to support colleagues as needed.

Reporting to the Director of Government Relations, you will support offices globally working from our Mississauga, Ontario office location.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Build and maintain strong networks with government officials through business council events, think tanks, symposiums, and similar forums
  • Facilitate follow‑up meetings to identify and secure future opportunities
  • Communicate and “sell” Hatch’s value proposition effectively to government stakeholders
  • Strategize how events and engagements align with Hatch’s business objectives
  • Develop plans to connect with government ministers and demonstrate Hatch’s impact and value
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to execute engagement strategies
  • Monitor political developments and identify opportunities for Hatch to contribute to policy discussions.

You bring to the role:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in politics, government relations, public policy, foreign affairs, business development, or related fields
  • Undergraduate degree in Public Policy, Government, Political Science, Journalism, Business, Law or related disciplines
  • Master’s degree inPublic Policy, Government, Political Science, Journalism, MBA, Law or related disciplines
  • Experience with Canadian politics (federal or provincial) and / or public policy research and analysis is necessary
  • Experience with work related to energy, natural resources, and infrastructure is an asset
  • Knowledge of foreign affairs, geopolitics, trade, and defence is an asset
  • Proven ability to network and influence decision‑makers
  • Self‑starter with excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to travel as needed (15%–25%).

Competencies (Knowledge,Skills, Attributes required):

  • Data Collection & Analysis: Help develop data collection processes, setting up efficient mechanisms for Hatch government relations databases
  • Track and report stakeholder meetings, business intelligence, and necessary follow‑ups
  • Policy and Legislative Analysis: Monitor, interpret and analyze legislation, regulations, and political + economic trends
  • Networking: Carry out networking initiatives, singularly focused on promoting Hatch’s brand and value proposition
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain networks with government officials, industry associations, and stakeholders
  • Government Procurement: Develop a strong understanding of government procurement processes as well as formal and informal factors influencing the selection of winning procurement bids
  • Strategic Thinking: Lead the development of advocacy strategies aligned with organizational objectives
  • Project & Event Management: Organize campaigns, stakeholder meetings, and government relations events efficiently
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication for preparing briefs, reports, and presentations; bilingual (English/French) strongly preferred
  • Critical Thinking & Decision Making: Evaluate complex issues, prioritize actions based on risk and opportunity
  • Adaptability: Respond effectively to evolving political environments and work imperatives
  • Collaboration: Work cross‑functionally with internal teams and external partners
  • Compliance & Ethics: Knowledge and adherence to lobbying regulations and ethical standards

Base salary range: $71,000 - $121,000

At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location. In addition to base pay, our total rewards package may include performance‑based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs designed to support your well‑being and growth.
