Summit Search Group has been retained by Nunavut Airport Services Limited (NASL) on the recruitment of their next General Manager, Airport Services. Nunavut Airport Services Limited (NASL) is responsible for the management and operation of the Iqaluit International Airport through a public-private partnership with the Government of Nunavut. NASL is committed to delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable airport operations that serve as a vital transportation link for Northern communities. The organization values collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence in all aspects of airport management.

Reporting to the WASCO Managing Director, the General Manager, Airport Services oversees the overall operation and maintenance of the Iqaluit Airport, including facilities, airfield, and groundside activities. This role provides leadership for key operational areas such as emergency response, safety, environmental management, and customer experience. The General Manager, Airport Services also represents NASL in its partnership with the Government of Nunavut, ensuring compliance with the Project Agreement and alignment with the airport’s strategic and business plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for airport operations, maintenance, safety, and emergency response programs.
  • Develop and manage annual and long-term budgets for capital projects and operations to ensure financial accountability and sustainability.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant aviation regulations and ensure full compliance with Transport Canada and other governing bodies.
  • Oversee the implementation of systems and procedures that promote operational readiness, efficiency, and the long-term lifecycle management of airport assets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, government partners, regulatory agencies, airlines, and local stakeholders.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance the customer experience and strengthen the Iqaluit Airport brand through improved services and facilities.
  • Support and develop management and operations staff through coaching, training, and succession planning.
  • Provide strategic input to NASL’s executive management team, ensuring effective planning, decision-making, and alignment with organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in aviation management, business administration, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of senior management experience in airport operations or a comparable transportation environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of airport operations, emergency planning, and aviation safety regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with experience managing unionized teams.
  • Proven ability in financial management, project planning, and performance improvement.
