Job description

Active Start Childcare is a distinguished early learning institution serving children from 12 months through kindergarten. We provide comprehensive daycare, preschool, and before- and after-school programs within state-of-the-art facilities designed to cultivate an inclusive, stimulating, and active environment.

Our inquiry-based curriculum fosters curiosity, creativity, and confidence, while emphasizing physical literacy and holistic child development. Carefully designed indoor and outdoor play spaces ensure children remain engaged and active throughout the year, including during Alberta’s harshest weather.

We maintain strong collaborative partnerships with families to support each child’s growth and prepare them for sustained success.

About the Role

This is a term position starting as soon as possible and ending May 2026, with a possibility of extension if the child continues to require services.

Age group - Grade 1

Shifts will be:
  • 3:00 pm - 06:00 pm Monday to Thursday (without a break).
  • 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm Friday
  • Schedule for Non-school/PD days Fridays will vary, depending on the school schedule.

We are seeking an individual who possesses a strong understanding of child development, exceptional engagement skills, and a dedication to fostering positive relationships with both children and colleagues. The ideal candidate will be dependable, adaptable, fluent in English, and exhibit outstanding communication, multitasking abilities, and experience with children with varied abilities. Prior experience is advantageous, and candidates must possess Alberta Child Care certification levels 1, along with current criminal record check (with vulnerable sector search) and first aid certification.

  • Actively supervising and engaging with the child while ensuring their well-being.
  • Cultivating positive relationships with the child, their family, and colleagues.
  • Adhering to Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Regulations and Active Start's policies and procedures to ensure quality care.
Qualifications
  • Must possess Alberta Child Care certification levels 1
  • Proven experience as an Educator or Teacher
  • Prior experience working with children with disability is a strong asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with educational technology and tools
  • Certification in teaching is a plus

The pay range for this role is:

20.49 - 20.49 CAD per hour (Active Start Seton)
