Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Forensics team in the Greater Toronto Area. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set to join the Forensic Engineering & Architecture team, whose responsibilities extend beyond those of traditional Mechanical Engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of Mechanical Engineering, be flexible, and a strategic thinker capable of handling a variety of tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct field inspections, loss analysis, testing, and data collection
  • Prepare technical reports detailing causes of damage or failure, damage observed, and test results
  • Perform desk reviews and field assessments to develop repair scope
  • Collaborate with insured parties and contractors to agree on repair scope
  • Review and analyze building codes and industry standards, working with code officials as needed
  • Present analysis and assessment findings to colleagues and clients
  • Research and develop technical topics for publication
  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely and within-budget execution
  • Support client relationship retention and development
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canadian provinces
  • 5-10 years of mechanical equipment/system design or related experience
  • Forensic, failure analysis, or troubleshooting experience
  • Experience evaluating mechanical systems and conducting loss/condition assessments
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and eager to learn
  • Ability to travel to sites as needed
Preferred
  • P.Eng. in Ontario or Quebec
  • Experience with machinery, equipment loss assessment, and industrial machinery
  • Experience with failure analysis of electro-mechanical systems
  • Involvement in major engineering projects and insurance loss investigations
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to travel and conduct field investigations
  • Ability to work in various environments, indoors and outdoors
  • Physical ability to climb, stand, walk, kneel, and crouch for extended periods
