Food Service Manager

Location: Winnipeg, MB
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Director / Administrator

Overview

The Food Services Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food service operations within the organization, ensuring high-quality meal preparation, safe food handling, and exceptional service delivery. This leader manages kitchen staff, coordinates menu planning, ensures dietary compliance, and maintains efficient, cost-effective operations that support resident satisfaction and health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership
    • Lead and supervise food service staff, including cooks, dietary aides, and support personnel
    • Create staffing schedules, manage performance, and ensure adequate coverage for meal service
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment in accordance with public health and safety standards
  • Menu Planning & Dietary Compliance
    • Oversee development of nutritionally balanced menus that meet residents’ dietary, medical, and cultural needs
    • Collaborate with dietitians and healthcare team members to ensure menus comply with relevant regulations and dietary guidelines
    • Ensure accurate preparation of therapeutic diets and special meal requests
  • Food Safety & Quality Assurance
    • Ensure compliance with Manitoba Health regulations, food safety standards, and infection control practices
    • Conduct routine audits, temperature checks, and quality checks
    • Maintain hazard analysis (HACCP) procedures and ensure staff adhere to safe food handling protocols
  • Inventory & Budget Management
    • Oversee inventory control, ordering, and cost management for food, supplies, and equipment
    • Work within approved budgets, track expenses, and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies
    • Establish strong vendor relationships to ensure quality products and timely deliveries
  • Resident & Staff Engagement
    • Engage with residents to gather feedback and continuously improve meal service satisfaction
    • Provide staff training on food safety, customer service, and kitchen operations
    • Foster a positive, team-oriented environment that supports collaboration and high service standards
Qualifications
  • Required:
    • Post-secondary education in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Culinary Management, or related field
    • Minimum 3+ years of experience in food service leadership, preferably in long-term care, healthcare, or hospitality
    • Food Handler Certification / Food Safety Training
    • Strong understanding of dietary restrictions, therapeutic diets, and nutrition standards
    • Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in long-term care, retirement living, or healthcare settings
    • Knowledge of Manitoba Health Standards and Accreditation Canada requirements
    • Experience with menu planning software or dietary management systems
