Position: FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

Starting Range: $110,000 to $115,000 Monday to Friday (35‑hour work week)

Location: 7 Shingwauk Street, Garden River, ON

As a key member of the finance department, The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of Garden River First Nation, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. This role plays a critical leadership function in supporting operational efficiency, cost control, and strategic decision‑making.

Garden River First Nation administers a variety of programs and services. Various department managers oversee their individual programs and overall administrative duties are overseen by a Chief Administrative Officer who is directly responsible to the Council who in turn, are responsible to the membership.

What you will do:
  • Develop and maintain budgets, accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversee cost accounting functions, including variance analysis, inventory valuation, and yield analysis.
  • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
  • Ensure that financial risks are minimized, and investments are maximized in compliance with the goals of GRFN.
  • Manage processes, financial software, developing standards, audit, accounting, corporate finance, tracking budget expenses, financial skills analyzing information, developing budgets, performance management.
  • Provides risk management to the corporation.
What you can bring to the role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Required CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) Designation
  • Required five years related job experience in an organization of similar size including accounting and financial management experience.
