Overview

Our Health, Safety & Environment group is growing and is looking to add a Field Safety Advisor to the team, based in the Elora and Jarvis, ON area. Reporting to the Regional Supervisor, the Field Safety Advisor provides support to supervisors, foremen and workers in the field and leads the day-to-day safety requirements of Valard's Elora and Hedley Battery Energy Storage Facility Construction sites. This position plays an important role in ensuring that Valard's safety culture is established and adhered to in the field.

Please Note: This position will work 14 days on / 7 days off OR 20 days on / 10 days off shift; candidates must reside around Elora or Jarvis, ON (e.g., Guelph / Kitchener / Brantford / Mississauga area), be able to travel regularly to Elora and/or Jarvis, and have a valid driver7s licence.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Be a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors as per the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP).
  • Develop a strong understanding of Valard's Health Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Communicate, coach and assist field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are met.
  • Participate and assist the supervisors and foremen in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Participate in regular meetings with project safety teams to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events to ensure safety obligations are carried out as per client agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and Supervisors.
  • Review tailboards daily to ensure that hazards are addressed and a mitigation process is in place; provide feedback to workers to assist them with compliance.
  • Perform observations, inspections, emergency preparedness drills, as per the current HS&E Manual and review and communicate the findings via safety meetings and postings.
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly/monthly safety reports.
  • Provide support to the supervisors and foremen to ensure that JSAs are developed and reviewed with the crews and available at the work site.
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and standards, and inform Project Manager(s) of any relevant changes.
Requirements

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Must reside in the Elora or Jarvis, ON area (i.e., Guelph / Kitchener / Brantford / Mississauga area).
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field.
  • 3 years' experience in a field safety position.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • National Construction Safety Officer Certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to start on or before November 1, 2025.
  • Any candidates who do not meet the above mandatory requirements will not be considered for the next steps in this selection.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or other Health & Safety certification.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with applicable provincial legislations.
  • Root cause investigation experience.
