Job description

General Contractor seeking experienced and business-minded Field Engineer / Project Coordinator to work on tenant improvement buildings projects in Vancouver. The Field Engineer/Project Coordinator will provide field‑engineering information to the project management team and sub‑trades to ensure construction works comply with all the design drawings, engineering standards, codes and specifications. Salary range is $70,000 – $80,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full‑time permanent role.

The Field Engineer / Project Coordinator is integral member of the project team, is responsible for, but not limited to, organizing and controlling project locates, documents, and files under the direction of a Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities of Engineer/Project Coordinator:
  • Participates in basic layout and field engineering activities and maintains lines and levels – verify as built conditions.
  • Researches and resolves drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences and errors.
  • Maintains field logs.
  • Review subcontractor shop drawings.
  • Interpret design
  • Present design discrepancies to design consultants for resolution, prepare documentation, field design change requests, etc., as required.
  • Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc.
  • Verify that all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings and specificationsli>
  • General subcontractor coordination.
  • Prepare "as built" drawings as required.
  • Supports the Site Superintendent and Project Manager as required.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Create, maintain, and deliver all project documents and file
  • Create, and maintain, and update project locate binders
  • Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information to the project team
  • Ensures clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Reviews field inspection reports from Consultants throughout the lifecycle of the project
  • Issue Contracts, Letters of Intent, Purchase Orders, etc.
  • Assist the PM in the review of Sub-Contractor & Supplier quotations to ensure that only fair and reasonable pricing is recommended for approval
  • Track & manage contemplated change notices and change orders
  • Ensure all required project close out documents
  • Communicate ideas for improving company processes with a positive and constructive attitude, and for developing this attitude in others
  • Keep the Project Manager (PM) and others informed about project status and issues that may impact client relations
Required Knowledge & Skills of Field Engineer/Project Coordinator:
  • Post‑secondary school education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management disciplines; or acceptable combination of education and previous experience
  • A minimum of 2+ years working as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator in a construction environment
  • Proficient in software related to construction industry (e.g. Primavera Scheduling software, AutoCAD, SAP etc.)
  • Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Mobility is essential, must be willing to travel to where projects are located and work a flexible work schedule (locations across Canada, often remote)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written.
